Premium Level Trip • 6 - 12 Oct 2012 • Family History Library • Salt Lake City, Utah
Features
This research trip is designed for the researcher with some experience using research facilities or who has completed at least a beginning genealogy class. If you are unsure of your qualifications, please contact the trip leaders.
Experienced leaders: Ann and Margo have been actively using the Family History Library, in Salt Lake City, for over thirty years. You will have the benefit of their knowledge to give your research a boost.
Personalized Research Plans: Your leaders will create a research plan for each of the research problems (2) you submit. These will be detailed and cover resources at the Family History Library, as well as some online resources.
Individual consultations: The leaders will be available Monday through Friday 9:00 - 11:30 and 1:00 - 5:00 for short consultations, to assist you with your research, as you need them. In addition to these consultations, each day you will have a 30 minute one-on-one session with either Ann or Margo to discuss your progress and review/adjust your research plan. This means your leaders will be available to you at least 32 hours during the week.
Limited number of participants: The trip will be limited to 10 Premium Level researchers in order to provide individual attention to your research needs. It is also limited to United States research including immigration/emigration. As soon as we receive your registration, we will provide access to the participant's website where you will find the research problem forms that you will need to complete and return to us by 15 July 2011. Each researcher will be limited to two (2) research problems, so start planning/thinking now about the specific research problems you want to pursue. The website will also provide pre-trip suggestions to help ensure a successful genealogy research trip.
Sunday "Muster": The week begins Sunday evening in the hotel at 7:00 PM where you will meet your fellow researchers and discuss the upcoming week of research. The evening will also include the presentation “Family History Library Overview” which will offer guidelines, suggestions, and tips for using the Library's resources.
Monday morning the fun begins! After breakfast, we will meet in one of the hotel’s meeting rooms for the class “Finding Your Ancestors Behind Their Brick Walls”. Your leaders will present techniques for searching for these elusive ancestors and analyzing the information you find. In the afternoon, at the Family History Library, there will be a group orientation followed by a tour of the library facilities showing you the essential places of research (copy center, microfilm stacks, microfiche center, family history books, reference books, etc.). During the tour, brief instructions will be given on using the various pieces of equipment found in the copy center and the microfilm readers.
Monday night dinner: Monday, after the Family History Library has closed at 5:00 PM, we will go to dinner at a nearby restaurant (included with your registration). Traveling with a trip non-participant? Please bring them; remember they are included in all non-research group activities such as this dinner.
